We have had a lovely, sunny week in Year 6, full of wonderful learning and creativity. We ended the week with a publishing party for the whole of Year 6 in the seminar rooms. The children decided that this was how they wanted to celebrate and share their great short stories, which they have been working on for the past few weeks.
In English, we have started a new topic on expository writing. We are going to be writing information texts about topics that are important to us. This week, we spent time exploring the different craft techniques that make information texts successful and selecting our topics. We are excited to create class encyclopedias!
In Maths, we have continued exploring decimals, percentages, and fractions. We focused on finding percentages of whole numbers and explored multiple methods to do this. The learning from this week can be found here: Maths sheets Spring 2 Week 4
In our Project lessons, we have been learning about food miles and Fair Trade. We explored avocados as a case study, examining the impacts of avocado farming. This ties into our topic on globalisation, where we are looking at both challenges and benefits.
In STEM, we have gone beyond the curriculum to explore some of the challenges that space travel presents. This week, we focused on the historic gender divide in space travel, analysing data to understand current trends.
