Well done to Year 6 for another wonderful half term of learning! This week has been Shakespeare Week, and we have been exploring A Midsummer Night’s Dream through active storytelling, music, poetry and history.
The week ended with a whole school banquet, which included delicious food, incredible music and magical scenery, making us feel like we were in the middle of the woods with the characters. The Year 6 classes did fantastic music performances to the rest of the school, which were based upon a character or moment from the play.
We had two History lessons this week. Our first lesson explored the context of Shakespeare’s plays and allowed us to understand more about the Elizabethan period and the roles of women at that time. We had fantastic class discussions about gender equality, comparing Elizabethan views on women to those today. We also had our final History lesson about World War One, and we focused on developing our writing and views about technology used during the war, followed by a debate about which technological advancement we believe has had the most significant enduring impact.
After half term:
- Our project next half term will be Globalisation.
- Our guided reading text next half term is Once by Morris Gleitzman.
