This week, we had the privilege of welcoming esteemed and much-loved poet Michael Rosen to school!
In his wonderfully winsome way, Michael led the children through a poetry workshop that was both hilarious and poignant. Sharing some of his well-known poems and drawing on his family’s experience of the Holocaust, Michael captured our imagination and together, we wrote a war-inspired poem.
In English lessons this week, the children have been doing a fantastic job developing their use of figurative language. Drawing on all of their learning over the last couple of weeks, the children have been writing letters home, imagining they are a soldier in the war, writing back to a loved one. They have been practicing using metaphors and similes as well as other emotive language to convey their ideas.
In Maths, we have been learning to add and subtract fractions. Here are practice sheets:Maths wk 4 add and subtract fractions
Our spelling focus has been words with the ‘r’ sound:
In project, the children learned about the nature of air warfare in World War One and then used this to inspire them for their Art work.
Please can all children make sure they have full PE kits in school. This includes appropriate trainers for outdoor PE.
English – inspired by Michael Rosen, we will write our own World War One inspired poetry.
Maths – we will continue to learn about fractions, particularly how to divide and multiply fractions and how to find fractions of amounts.
We wish you all a restful weekend.
