Year 6 Weekly Update
What a busy and exciting week it’s been in Year 6! We’ve been diving deeper into our learning — from tackling tricky Maths problems to exploring fascinating topics in STEM and History. The children have shown great enthusiasm, teamwork, and curiosity throughout the week. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
In Maths, we have been looking at factors and multiples and using our knowledge of these to solve equations. We then moved on to explore prime numbers and prime factors. The learning from this week can be found: Au1 W6 Maths
In Writing, we started the week by exploring a range of information texts. We compared different examples and identified the key features we would like to include in our own writing. By the end of the week, everyone chose a title for their own information text — we’re very excited to begin drafting them next week!
In Project, we completed our topic this week, focusing on the lasting impacts of the British Empire. We explored how the history of the Commonwealth connects countries around the world today and reflected on the different perspectives and legacies of this period in history.
In STEM, we have been learning about the effects of drugs on the human body. We used Lance Armstrong as a case study to discuss how performance-enhancing drugs can impact health, ethics, and sport.
In Guided Reading, we finished our class book! We ended the week by discussing whether the ending was overall positive or negative. It was brilliant to see the children using evidence from the text to support their opinions. Guided Reading books will be sent home with children who brought them to school.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
In Writing, we’ll begin drafting our own non-fiction texts.
In Maths, we’ll move on to practising formal methods of multiplication.
In STEM, we’ll complete a Working Scientifically assessment based on the cardiovascular system.
