What a wonderful start we have had to the Spring term in Year 6!

Writing
In Writing, we have begun creating our own autobiographies. We have explored a range of autobiographies and identified effective craft moves, which we are now incorporating into our own writing. A key focus has been developing different ways to add additional detail and information to enhance our work.

Maths
In Maths, we started by consolidating our knowledge of equivalent fractions. We then moved on to comparing and ordering fractions, both when denominators are related and when they are not. We ended the week by learning how to add and subtract fractions. If you would like additional practice, find the independent learning from the week here: Spring 1 Week 2 Maths

STEM
In STEM, we began our learning on classification. We explored different ways organisms can be classified and discussed the usefulness of various classification systems.

Project
In Project, we have been learning about the life of soldiers during World War One. We examined different warfare techniques and considered the impact these had. In particular, we focused on how mass production and industrialisation influenced the war.

Guided Reading
In Guided Reading, we continued reading The Final Year. We explored themes of poverty and discussed how the free-verse structure of the book impacts the reader.

PSHE
In PSHE, we have been focusing on identifying our strengths as learners, as well as recognising and valuing the strengths of others.

RE
In RE, we have been learning about the influence of Christianity in the UK.

Next Week

  • Writing: Revising and improving our autobiographies

  • Maths: Multiplying fractions by whole numbers

  • STEM: Continuing our work on classification, with a focus on using different classification keys

  • Project: Learning about the Battle of the Somme
