We have all gotten straight back into the swing of learning in Year 6 and have loved seeing the children so engaged with all our new projects!
Writing:
We have finished publishing our information texts and have started learning about Rosalind Franklin, ready to begin writing biographies about her next week.
Maths:
We started the week by looking at short division, then moved on to using the chunking method for long division. For additional practice, see this week’s learning: Maths Autumn 2 Week 2 – Division
STEM:
In STEM, we have been learning about DNA and genetic variation. We carried out an experiment based on Darwin’s Finches, looking at how beak adaptation varied with different food sources.
Project:
In Project, we have been exploring globalisation and population. We investigated different trends in population growth around the world and used China’s One Child Policy as a case study.
Guided Reading:
We have continued reading A Christmas Carol, exploring Dickens’ vocabulary choices and looking closely at Scrooge’s character development.
Next Week
Writing:
We will be writing autobiographies about Rosalind Franklin.
Maths:
We will continue practising long division, focusing on dividing three- and four-digit numbers by a two-digit number.
STEM:
We will begin learning about genetic engineering.
