It has been a cold, short but wonderful week back in Year 6 – what a way to kick off 2026. It has been great to see Year 6 back, refreshed and ready to learn.
In Writing, we have started a new unit on autobiographies. This week, we have been immersing ourselves in the genre and picking out the authorial techniques that we want to learn.
In Maths, we have been consolidating our learning on fractions. We have focused on finding equivalent fractions and identifying the highest common factors of numbers. If you would like additional practice, the learning can be found here:Sp1W1 Equivalent and Simplifying Fractions Year 6
In Project, we have begun learning about World War One. This week, we looked at some of the causes of the war (the Bosnian Crisis, militarism, imperialism, nationalism and alliances). We considered how these themes changed the climate in Europe before the war and the impact this had. The children were very excited to be immersed in the new topic, and we cannot wait to push their thinking further next week!
In Guided Reading, we began reading our new book, The Final Year. A reminder that if you would like to purchase a personal copy of the book for your child, this can be done on ParentMail.

In Project, we will be looking at warfare during World War One.

In Art, we will be focusing on observational drawing of World War One objects.
