It feels like the weather has turned this week and we are definitively in autumn. It only takes a couple of weeks and we are all again in the swing of things. Children have been impressing the teachers and each other with their dedication to the golden agreements and school values. We have enjoyed celebrating many values certificates and gold awards in our assemblies.
We have managed to stay toasty this week, especially in STEM, where we have been exploring irreversible changes. In particular, we looked closely at the changes that happen to bread when it has become toast. Yum! Children have also been set the task to write down their own recipe that includes some irreversible changes. This could be a recipe from a book or even a made up one. Please bring into school next week.
In English, we have started writing our Norse myths. We will continue this next week. Children have been experimenting with relative clauses, similes and fronted adverbials to make their writing really spectacular.
In Maths, we have continued learning about place value, including ordering and rounding numbers within 1,000,000. This is a particularly tricky concept as children need a lot of prior knowledge about next and previous multiples of 10. In Guided Reading, we continue to learn the epic story of Beowulf, using Michael Morpurgo’s adaptation. It has some wonderful vocabulary that we have enjoyed exploring.

Coming up:
We have a trip to West Stow coming up on the 6th November (after half term). There will be some information about this on Parent Mail. Please speak to your class teacher if you have any questions regarding the trip.

In Maths we are beginning to learn about negative numbers.
In History we are learning how Anglo-Saxon belief changed from paganism to Christianity.
