This week has been packed with energy, creativity, and curiosity!
On Wednesday, we had a fantastic time at our Sports Day. The children took part in carousel activities, including standing long jump, shotput and javelin, as well as skipping, relay, sprinting and marathon races. Everyone gave it their best, showed great sportsmanship, and had lots of fun. Well done to all who took part!
In Maths, we revised our knowledge of angles. The children learned how to classify, estimate and draw angles accurately. They showed brilliant focus, using resources like protractors and rulers to draw precise angles with care and confidence. Summer 2 – Week 5
We’ve begun our final English topic of Year 5; poetry! This unit is all about “poetry that hides in things”, painting with words to transform everyday objects, feelings or experiences into something magical. We explored model poems and identified the craft moves we admired. The children then generated their own ideas, using their senses to help bring those ideas to life. Building on this, they chose a ‘diamond moment’ as the focus for their final poem.
In D&T, having completed their designs, the children have now started building their cam toys. Working in teams, they carefully assigned roles to each group member to bring their moving toy to life. It’s been brilliant to see their teamwork and problem-solving in action!
In STEM, we’ve been learning how the body protects itself from infection and how oral hygiene plays a part. We’ve launched a new investigation to find out what happens to our teeth when we drink different liquids. To simulate tooth enamel, we’re using boiled eggs placed in: water, orange juice and water. Over the next week, we’ll observe and record the changes daily. We can’t wait to see what we discover!
