Maths:
This week we have been rounding integers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 in our daily maths sessions and working with negative numbers in our longer maths lessons. Children have explored number lines to understand negative numbers and their relation to zero. English:
We concluded our exploration of Beowulf with two short pieces of writing. The first was a character and setting description of Grendel’s journey across the moors. This was then followed by an action scene depicting the battle between Grendel and Beowulf.

History: Anglo Saxons
This week we have investigated the reasons for the Viking invasion of Britannia from 793AD and some of the key figures and events that followed.
STEM: Materials
This week the children honed their research skills and sharpened their presentation skills as they sought investment for two new materials: graphene and geckel.
Home Learning
As ever, we ask that children:
- Read for 30 minutes each day
- Practise times tables for 10 minutes each day
- Practise and revise year 3-4 and year 5-6 spellings
- Physical activity: Try this PE challenge at home! Home PE Avoid the defenders
In addition, please practice the spellings that we have covered so far this year (see list) in preparation for an end of term dictation next week. Break the words down into syllables and sounds, just as we have done in our lessons.
PE
Children must change into PE uniform for all PE sessions. This includes ensuring that long hair is tied back and that ear-rings are either removed or taped.
Failure to bring the correct PE uniform to school will result in a letter home and a re-start being issued.
Swimming
Year 5 are enjoying swimming sessions on Tuesday mornings at Parkside Pool. This is part of their PE. Please ensure that children bring their swimming kit to school with them and remove any jewellery.
Mobile Telephones
Only children who have permission to walk home alone and whose parents have provided written consent may bring a mobile telephone to school. It must be given to the class teacher at the start of each day and will be returned at home time.
