What an amazing half term!
This week was a great conclusion of all the great learning we have done this half term, with many assessments and topics to finish. Children worked really hard on their arithmetic, reasoning and reading papers. Across the board, the great effort and perseverance shown by children is fantastic to see.
We also finished our history topic by learning about Alfred the Great, considering the many reasons why he is considered ‘Great’, but also why he could have been ‘not so great’. This led into our unit check, where children recalled all the term’s learning. Next term, we will be focusing instead on Geography as we learn about ‘Explosive Nature’ – volcanoes, tsunamis and earthquakes! This will also link to year 5’s art topic next term.
Our STEM unit on materials was also wrapped up with a unit check. Next term we will be focusing on sustainability and renewable energy.
In English, once the final few children finished publishing their myths, we assembled them into whole-class books. We are so blown away with the quality of the stories and how much everyone has written! The children are so excited to share these stories with parents when Family Friday comes around next term. Finally, what better way to celebrate the end of term than an exciting (and wet and windy) Forest School session, complete with hot chocolate and marshmallows over the campfire!
For next term:
- Your child will now need PE kit on a different day. Year 5s will generally be doing PE on Thursdays in the upcoming term. Thank you all for your cooperation with ensuring children have correct PE kit at all times to allow them to fully participate.
