It has been another fantastic week of learning in Year 5, with children showing great enthusiasm and creativity across all subjects.
Maths
In Maths, children have been learning about angles and how to measure them accurately using protractors. They have also explored 3D shapes, identifying and describing their features, including faces, vertices and edges. English
In English, children have continued drafting their memoirs and developing their writing skills further. They have been applying parenthesis to add extra information, using the power of three for effect, and including rhetorical questions to engage the reader. Towards the end of the week, children also began the important process of editing and improving their work.
Computing
In Computing, the children have been learning how to programme Micro:bits. They enjoyed experimenting with coding and creating simple programs using these exciting devices.
RE
In RE, children discussed how Christians show commitment to God. We explored different ways Christians practise their faith, including going to church, praying, Christenings and Holy Communion.
STEM
In STEM, children have been learning about the Geocentric and Heliocentric Solar Systems. They explored the important work of Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei, and how their discoveries changed our understanding of space.
The children also created their own models of the Solar System and produced detailed fact files about each planet, the Sun and the Moon. The finished work looked fantastic and showed excellent research skills.
Whole School Celebration
This week, we also joined the rest of the school in celebrating Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. Children enjoyed having lunch together in the Inner Circle, making it a very special whole-school event and a wonderful way to celebrate the life and work of someone who has inspired generations to care about our planet and wildlife.
