Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had another exciting week in Year 4, here’s a look at what we’ve been working on:
Maths
This week, the children have been learning about perimeter and area. They have been exploring how to calculate the perimeter of different shapes and how to find the area by counting squares and using multiplication.
English
We have started a brand-new writing project on Character-driven short stories. The children have been analyzing and identifying key features of these stories and have begun creating their own unique characters. We can’t wait to see how their stories develop!
Guided Reading
We introduced our new book, “Race to the Frozen North”, and the children were excited to learn about Matthew Henson, a groundbreaking explorer.
STEM
In STEM, we have been investigating states of matter, focusing on the viscosity of different liquids. The children conducted an exciting experiment using golden syrup, washing-up liquid, water, vegetable oil, and cornflour slime. They timed how quickly each liquid moved across a plate, made predictions, and recorded their results. The children had a fantastic time with this hands-on experiment!
Geography
This week, we introduced our new project about refugees. The children discussed and learned the differences between a refugee and a migrant, helping them develop an understanding of the reasons why people move to different countries.
RE
In Religious Education, we explored the meaning of forgiveness and discussed its importance in Christianity. The children shared thoughtful reflections on why forgiveness matters and how it can impact our relationships.
PSHE
This week in PSHE, the children have been learning about saving money and spending it wisely. We have discussed why it’s important to make thoughtful choices about how we use money and how saving can help us in the future.

Please continue to encourage your child to practice their times tables daily using Times Tables Rockstars. Regular practice will really help improve their speed and accuracy.

👕 PE Kit Reminder
Please ensure your child brings an appropriate and labeled PE kit to school on their PE days. Children who do not bring their PE kit will receive a restart.
