Welcome back Year 4! It’s been lovely to see everyone and get started on our new project this half term, which is: Migration. We begun this topic by learning about the difference between migrants and refugees, as well how certain sections of the media can be biased towards these groups and perpetuate dehumanising language and twist the truth. Obviously this can be quite a heavy topic for discussion but the children navigated it with a real openness and maturity – so well done Year 4!
In English we have started a new unit on characer driven short stories, which following the writer’s process begins with reading as a writer. This means actively reading and looking for craft moves that we can use in our writing to make it more effective. In Maths we have revisted Perimeter and also learned about area. In STEM, we are learning about states of matter. We had fun experimenting with a non-newtonian fluid (cornstarch and water) and comparing the viscosity of different liquids.
Going into next week:
Maths: continuing to explore area.
English: We are going to begin planning our short stories and creating our main character.
STEM: continuing to learn about states of matter.
Geography: learning about coordinates and the difference between longitude and latitude.
