Dear Parents,
We’ve had a fantastic week here in Year 4 as we continue the summer term with lots of exciting learning and memorable moments! Here’s what we’ve been up to:
English
We have started writing our setting-driven short stories. The children are working hard to use rich descriptive language to bring their story settings to life, and it’s been wonderful to see their creativity shine.
Maths
In Maths, the children have been learning about fractions, focusing on understanding the whole and counting fractions beyond 1. Here are the worksheets we’ve used this week to support their learning.Maths W3 – Fractions
PSHE
This week in PSHE, we have been learning how to manage risky situations using the STOP – DECIDE – DO strategy:
Stop – Something doesn’t feel right; I think there’s a risky situation developing.
Decide – What are my options? Should I say something, go somewhere else, or get help?
Do – Take action to reduce the risk.
We also learned about what to do when someone is choking, practicing how to respond calmly and safely.
Religious Education (RE)
In RE, we reviewed places of worship across several religions and had thoughtful discussions about baptism, including the different types and meanings in various faiths.
Computing
We’ve launched our new computing project: Little Bits! The children explored the equipment, learned about looking after it properly, and had a chance to play and experiment with the components and circuits. It’s been a great start to hands-on learning in technology!
STEM (Science)
This week in Science, the children have been experimenting with light and investigating which colours they can see in the dark. They enjoyed exploring how light affects what we see and made some fascinating discoveries during their experiments!
VE Day
On the 8th of May, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The children learned about why this day is significant, created beautiful poppy posters using our school colours, and joined the whole school in the inner circle to listen to poems. We finished the celebration by singing “We’ll Meet Again” by Vera Lynn.
Next Week:
English: Children will finish and begin editing their setting-driven short stories.
Maths: We will continue with fractions of an amount and review all previous learning in preparation for upcoming assessments.
Messages to Parents:
Please make sure your child brings a
labeled PE kit appropriate for the weather.
Don’t forget sun cream and hats for outside play as the weather warms up.
Please send your child with a healthy snack for their break time.
