We have really enjoyed learning with Year 4 this half term. For those of you who were able to make it to Family Friday, we hope you will agree that the children have learnt a lot this term and have produced some fantastic outcomes. We are especially proud of their ‘Journey through the Biomes’ and their persuasive speeches.
In Maths, we have been learning about fraction and decimal equivalents as well as ordering and comparing decimal numbers. This would be worth revising and the sheets can be found here: Maths Worksheets W6.
First news reading comprehension can be found here: L1-Four-Stories-911 This is a great way to find out about current news events, as well as practice reading skills such as retrieval and summarisation.
The spelling rule that we have been learning this week is the prefix ‘in’ and ‘re’. The word list can be found here for further practice at home: in re words sheet
We were so lucky to take part in art with Mrs Smith this half term. This week, we took some inspiration from Pablo Picasso and created some beautiful hanging doves. Children will bring these home for you to hang up in your houses over the holidays. We will not be continuing Art next term, but will have a new enrichment lesson: Forest school!
We are lucky to be taking part in forest school next term. Parents should have received some information about this, including what is needed in the forest school kit. It is essential that your child has the correct kit as the weather will be damp and cold. If they do not have waterproofs and appropriate footwear they may not be able to take part. The kit will be sent home after every session as there is not the space to store it all in school.
Days for forest school are as follows:
Nile class on Mondays from 1:30-3pm
Thames class on Tuesdays from 1:30-3pm
Amazon class on Thursdays from 1:30-3pm
Next week we have a couple of things to be aware of.
Monday 18th – Christmas jumper day and school christmas dinner. Come with some festive attire!
Wednesday 20th – Last day of school. Children will be collected at 1.30pm
On the last day of school, children are allowed to bring some board games to play with their friends. No electronics please.
There won’t be a blog published next week so we would like to wish you all a very happy holiday with lots of rest! We look forward to seeing you all again in 2024.
The Year 4 team.
