This week Year 4 have been continuing their picture books. They have planned out the plot and used this to write and edit the narrative. We have taken some writing inspiration from other picture books, such as ‘Elki is not my dog’ by Elena Arevalo Mellville and Tonka Uzu. The author of this book used techniques such as repetition, power of three and figurative language to make the books appealing. We have tried to use some of these techniques in our own picture books. We can’t wait to share them with you on Family Friday!
For the book binding, children will need to bring in to school a relatively thin (but strong) stick, approximately A5 in length. All will be revealed…
In Maths, we have been learning about geometry. The learning sequence has taken us through angles, symmetry and the properties of triangles. There is a lot to remember, so you may wish to download and have another go at the challenges, which can be found here: Maths W5 Geometry.
In Science, we continue our learning unit on Light and Shadow. The children have been busy making shadow puppet theatres and experimenting with the types of shadows they can make.
We are looking forward to concluding the term next week with some showcases shared with Year 5. Children will be sharing with others in school about their projects and inventions that they have made in their computing projects with the Year 5 classes.
