Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had another exciting week in Year 4, filled with hands-on learning, engaging discussions, and new topics across all subjects! Here’s a look at what we’ve been working on:
Maths
This week, the children have been learning how to divide numbers by 10 and 100 using place value charts. They have been practicing shifting digits to the right and understanding the effect of division on place value.
English
The children have started writing their character-driven short stories. They have been using a planning river to structure their writing into three clear parts, helping them develop strong storylines and well-thought-out characters.
Guided Reading
We are continuing with “Race to the Frozen North”, exploring the inspiring story of Matthew Henson and discussing his journey to the Arctic.
STEM
In STEM, we have been learning about the change of states of water. The children have explored the water cycle and have been measuring temperature to observe how water transitions between solid, liquid, and gas. This hands-on learning has helped deepen their understanding of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.
Geography
This week, we have been looking at different types of settlements, including hamlets, towns, cities, and villages. The children have been discussing the features of each and comparing how they differ in size, population, and services.
RE
In Religious Education, we have been assessing the children’s understanding of the life of Jesus and the importance of forgiveness. They reflected on key events in Jesus’ life and how his teachings influence people today.
PSHE
In PSHE, we have been learning about drugs. The children explored the difference between drugs and medicines, as well as different types of drugs, including legal and illegal substances. This has helped them develop a greater awareness of making safe and informed choices.
Spanish
This week in Spanish, the children have been working on sentence structures.Y4. Puedo crear una sesión de yoga
Forest School
The children had a fantastic time in Forest School, where they enjoyed creating leaf art and making fire using cotton buds, fire steels, and tuna cans. These activities helped them develop teamwork and outdoor survival skills in a safe and fun environment.
