Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Year 4, filled with new learning and fun activities across all subjects! Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been working on in class:
Maths
This week in Maths, we have been practicing two-step problems using addition and subtraction. The children have been working hard to solve equations with missing numbers, developing their problem-solving skills and building their confidence with different strategies.
English
In English, we’ve been exploring the story “In Our Hands” by Lucy Farfort. The children have been writing in role as one of the characters from the story, showing empathy and creativity as they bring their chosen character’s thoughts and feelings to life. It’s been wonderful to see how engaged they are with this imaginative story!
Science
In Science, we’ve been learning about sound! The children have been investigating different sounds around the school and discussing how sounds are made. We’ve also started learning about the parts of the ear and how we hear. The children have been fascinated to discover how the ear works and how sound travels.
Guided Reading
We’ve started reading our new class book, “A Series of Unfortunate Events” by Lemony Snicket. The children are already captivated by the mysterious and adventurous story of the Baudelaire siblings, and we’re looking forward to lots of lively discussions and activities in the coming weeks.
History
In History, we’ve kicked off our new project on Ancient Rome. We had a great class discussion about what the children already know about the Romans, and they surprised us with some interesting facts! We’ve also created a Topic poster in our humanities books, which will help us track everything we learn as the project progresses.
PSHE
Our focus in PSHE this week has been on identifying the things we are good at and recognising the importance of teamwork. The children reflected on their personal strengths and shared ideas about how working together can help everyone achieve more.
Religious Education (RE)
As part of an upcoming RE lesson, we kindly ask if you could send in any old newspapers or magazines with your child. These will be used for a creative activity next week. Thank you in advance for your support!
