Year 4 have been amazing this week – what lucky teachers we are to have them in our classes! Even though our week looked a little different, the children still managed to blow us away with the creativity and passion that they brought to all of our learning.
In English, we finished learning about the Mezazoic. We have started writing our Non-fiction texts using our new knowledge (we now have a year group full of experts). To do this, we have been focusing on using conjunctions to add additional information. In Maths, we have been looking at informal methods for the multiplication. We have applied this to the multiplication of 3 digit numbers by a 1 digit number. In Geography, we continued to explore the different biomes, this time looking at the biomes that have been most impacted by humans. In Science, we are exploring evaporation and used demonstrations to show this.
Maths and Spelling
Please find the maths learning for this week here: Spring 2 Week 4 Maths.
In Spelling we have been focusing on the /o/ sound. The /o/ sound can be written as <o> as in bottle, or <a> as in swat. Some words to practice are: cot, stop, wash, wasp, wander.
English: we are going to finish writing our Non-fiction texts. We will be focusing on the features of non-fiction texts as well as beginning to explore our presenting skills.
Maths: we are going to look at formal methods for the multiplication of 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. We will be building up to teaching the column method for multiplication.
Science: we are focusing on our scientific enquiry skills, completing an experiment to look at the temperature change of water.
Geography: we are going to look at deforestation, linking this with the impacts we have on the environment and discussing ways that we can help.
Guided reading: we are continuing reading Journey to the River Sea. A copy of the relevant chapters can be found here: Journey to the River Sea Chapter 9, 10, 11. A overview of the book can be found here: Journey to the River Sea overview.
Just a friendly reminder that all children need to have a full PE kit in school, we teach PE outside so please ensure that PE kits include warmer clothing if needed. Currently, all Year 4 classes have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
