We had an incredible end of Half Term week in Year 4!
In English, we finished reading “Queen of Darkness” and enjoyed discussing the different twists and turns the story made since the beginning, going really in depth about character growth and change, as well as talking about the ending and the various techniques the Author used, including historical references.
In Maths, we deepened our knowledge of Perimeter using real life examples, as well as starting to explore Area and square centimeters. We used both of these to create a house plan. It was great to see all the different shapes the children used to create and calculate their own floorplans, which also helped them put into context the calculation of non-rectangular areas.
In History, we investigated the impact that the Romans had on both ancient and modern Britain. We looked at the quality of houses, roads, city layouts and many more advancements that were made during that time, and compared them to what we use today, which brought up an incredible discussion and kick started a reflection on the modern world.
In Science, we explored the lifecycle of a plant and created posters to represent all the different stages. We also talked about lifecycles in a broader sense, and how they might differ between different species.
In Art, we concluded our Roman art journey by painting a mosaic. This was an interesting challenge because we tried to used different shades of the same colour by mixing it with white, grey and black. The result was incredible!
In Guided Reading, we 16 to 20 and continued our discussion about how authors could write non-human characters and how those characters might interact with others. This created great discussions especially when looking a Bear’s story in Chapter 19. Our guided reading book for next term can be found here: Journey to the River Sea Chapter 1. Journey to the River Sea overview.
