Dear Parents,
It’s been another busy and exciting week in Year 4! The children have made a great start to their new topics, showing lots of enthusiasm and curiosity across all areas of learning. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
English
We’ve introduced our new topic: Expository Writing. Children will have the freedom to choose a topic they are passionate and knowledgeable about—something they consider themselves an “expert” in! This week, they’ve been busy gathering ideas, and next week, we’ll begin planning their writing.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been working on equivalent fractions, multiplying fractions, and multiplying integers. Maths W1 – Fractions
The children have done really well applying their knowledge in different contexts. Next week, we’ll begin our new unit on geometry, starting with 2D shapes and angles.
STEM (Science)
We’ve launched our new unit on living things. This week, the children learned about the seven features of living things, using the acronym MRS NERG to help remember them. Next week, we’ll explore microhabitats, investigate those found around our school grounds, and go on a mini beast hunt to observe living things in their natural micro-environments.
Design and Technology (DT)
In DT, we’ve been examining different types of packaging, exploring their features and predicting which type would best protect a pack of biscuits. Next week, we’ll move on to working with nets and 3D shapes to start thinking about how packaging is constructed.
PSHE
We’ve started our new unit on Healthy Habits, with thoughtful discussions about what it means to make healthy choices—eating well, staying active, getting rest and sleep, and more. Next week, our focus will shift to physical activity and how it supports a healthy lifestyle.
Next Week Reminders:
PE Kits are compulsory – Please ensure your child brings a labeled PE kit appropriate for the weather.
Don’t forget sun cream and hats for outdoor play.
Please send your child with a healthy snack for break time.
For our DT project, we kindly ask that each child brings in a cardboard package (e.g., cereal box, toothpaste box, etc.) to help with our hands-on packaging investigation.
