Dear Parents,
We’ve had another productive and exciting week in Year 4! The children continue to amaze us with their curiosity and effort across all areas of learning. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
This Week’s Learning Recap
In English, the children began planning their expository writing. They chose topics they feel confident about and started organising their ideas into clear sections.
In Maths, we began our new unit on geometry, starting with a focus on 2D shapes and angles. The children enjoyed identifying and comparing different types of angles and discussing the properties of shapes. Maths S2 W2
In STEM, we continued exploring living things, this time focusing on microhabitats. We investigated the various microhabitats around our school and even went on a mini beast hunt to observe them in action!
In Design & Technology (DT), we worked with nets and 3D shapes, starting to think about how packaging is constructed and how different structures serve different purposes.
Next Week’s Learning
Maths: We’ll move on to learning about coordinates and how to translate 2D shapes on a grid.
English: Children will continue to plan and write the main sections of their expository texts, focusing on structure and clarity.
STEM: We’ll be learning about branching databases and how they help scientists classify species based on characteristics.
DT: Our focus will shift to graphic design, exploring how colours, fonts, and layout are used in biscuit packaging to appeal to different audiences.
Reminders to Parents
PE kits are compulsory – please ensure your child brings a labeled PE kit appropriate for the weather.
Don’t forget to send your child with sun cream and a hat for outdoor play.
