It’s been a short but packed week, and on behalf of all year 4 teachers we would like to thank you for your time with learning conversations, which have been a wonderful way to celebrate the children on their learning journeys!
This week in English we have continued to work on our expository texts, using expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases in our writing. We practiced writing engaging conclusions and have begun to make choices as to what we want to include in our actual drafts.
In Maths we have been practicing even more with subtraction of four digit numbers, particularly within the context of multistep word problems – a great real world context to support your children with this could be to challenge them to think about how much change might be had from grocery shopping.
In Geography we explored deciduous forest biomes, taking a closer look at the different layers of the forest and drawing out what kind of plants and wildlife we might find in each section.
Next Week:
English: We will be drafting our expository texts on the children’s chosen subject matter.
Maths: We will be continuing to challenge ourselves with written methods and multistep problems.
Geography: We will be taking a closer look at the rainforest biome and comparing it to deciduous forests.
STEM: We will be checking in on our buried banana peels, to gather results for our decomposers experiment.

Amazon class on Monday
Nile class on Tuesday
Thames class on Thursday
Please ensure your children are sent to school with the appropriate clothing for forest school, as we go out regardless of weather.
