It’s been another great week in Year 3!
In English, we began drafting our spooky stories using our super setting illustrations and story rivers. We considered which type of opening would be most impactful in our stories. Then we focused on creating rich setting descriptions using expanded noun phrases. By the end of the week we were ready to build suspense into our stories to keep our audience on the edge of their seats! We are delighted with the stories that the children have written so far- excellent work Year 3!
In Maths, we have been focusing on positioning numbers on a number line. We were concentrating on 1s and 10s this week. The children have developed the skill of looking for the midpoint and the nearest 10/100 before looking at the smaller intervals.
In STEM, we gathered and recorded data about different samples of soil from around the school. We learnt about drainers and retainers before putting the soils to the test. The children looked closely at the samples of soil and thought about if they would drain or retain water- there were some surprises as the morning went on! We remembered our work on fair tests last week to make sure the data was accurate.
In History, we found out about the hierarchy in ancient Egypt. We were very excited to see exactly why the first pharaoh had two crowns!
