Another amazing week in Year 3. Whilst patiently waiting for the sun to show, the children enjoyed their opal play despite the rain and thunderstorms!
The children’s creativity has shined in the DT project where they have begun experimenting with creating different levers. Wonderful teamwork was shown in the classes where classmates supported each other with the construction of fiddly mechanisms for the levers!
In English, the children began exploring poetry, becoming readers as writers to explore our new topic. They read a mixture of poems around topics about our world, with key themes including nature, animals and world celebrations.
In Maths, the Year 3 cohort has been showcasing their knowledge in fractions. They have shown great success in both adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. Maths Worksheets
Next week:
During STEM, children will continue to explore electricity and work toward creating working circuits with buzzers, buttons and switches.
Next week in English the children will plan, draft and revise their acrostic poems around celebrating or spreading awareness of the world.
In Maths, classes will be completing their fractions topic with a focus of equivalent fractions and ordering/comparing fractions.

A big thankyou to the parents who have volunteered to come and help on the Wandlebury trip in July. We are still looking for some more volunteers so if you are available on either dates please let us know!
Incase the rain continues, with opal play we try to avoid indoor wet play where possible. This can lead to children’s clothes become wet. Please consider the weather forecast prior to the day and send children in with the correct clothing for the weather in consideration of this. This can include waterproofs, wellies, coat, spare sock/clothes. Alternatively, if the weather warms up please remember sun cream, hats and water bottles.
