We’ve had an exciting week of learning in Year 1!
In English, we kicked off our new writing project by delving into traditional tales. The children explored various characters and stories, brainstorming ideas to create their own unique twists. Next week, we’ll continue our journey through these classic tales and begin planning our own imaginative stories. It’s going to be a fun and creative adventure!
In Phonics, we have been reviewing sounds by playing the Sound Swap game, as well as introducing a new sound with different spellings: <ai> as in play, steak, day, and spray. Please continue reading regularly with your children, as this gives them the greatest opportunity to develop their vocabulary, fluency and understanding of the language.
In Maths, we have been learning to sort objects into different groups according to their features, such as colour, shape and size. This helps children recognise patterns and understand how things can be categorised. You can support this at home by encouraging your child to sort toys, clothes, or household items. In STEM, we have been exploring appropriate clothing choices for different types of weather. The children have been thinking carefully about what we need to wear to stay safe, comfortable and prepared, whether it’s a rainy day, a sunny afternoon, or a cold winter morning.

All classes have PE on Mondays. Please ensure your child has a complete kit that includes black or navy-blue shorts and jogging bottoms or leggings, a plain white t-shirt, navy blue jumper or hoodie and trainers.
