What a great first week back!
English
This week we have been writing some exciting stories in English. Using a picture to start us off, we have been getting creative and making up our own tales, while using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Phonics
In phonics we have been getting ready for the phonics screening test by reviewing some sounds we have already done.
We sorted words according to their spellings eg:
/ow/ brown, cow, owl and growl
/ou/ ground, found, mouth
Next week, we will review the different spellings for the /oo/ sound; the /ie/ sound, the /s/ sound and the /l/ sound.
Maths
This week we having been exploring making equal groups with all of the lovely maths equipment in our classroom. We learn how to represent equal groups as an addition equation like this 2 + 2 + 2 = 6. Here are some ‘equal group’ sheets to consolidate at home. Independent maths sheets
Science
In science we have learnt about how humans change over time, what happens when we grow and what might happen to us as we get older.
Notices:
- Next week we will change our reading books on Friday
- The phonics screening will commence next week. This is nothing to worry about and should feel like business as usual for our Year 1s.
- Please remember a hat and sunscreen on sunny days.
- Please familiarise your child with the school menu which can be found on the school website.
