Year 1 has had an action-packed week filled with learning and fun!

In STEM, the children have been learning all about shadows. We went outside to investigate what happens when light is blocked and the children were full of curiosity as they experimented. They asked lots of thoughtful questions and enjoyed exploring their scientific thinking through hands-on discovery.

In Phonics, we continued working on the /ee/ sound and explored the different ways it can be spelled, such as in she, see, meal, eat, seat. The children have been spotting these sounds in words around the classroom and practising reading and writing them.

In Writing, we have been continuing our wonderful project, “Traditional Tales with a Twist”. The children have been working hard to complete the middle section of their stories, adding exciting events and imaginative ideas. They are now ready to move on to the final part, where they will bring their tales to a brilliant ending. We can’t wait to see how their creative stories come together!

In Maths, we have been practising reading and writing numbers as words, as well as representing quantities in different ways. The children explored how numbers can be shown using objects and worked with tens frames to investigate how many items can be represented.

Key messages
Phonics books: please make sure these are returned on 3.10.25  . The phonics books relate to the spellings we have been learning in class so please use them for any spelling practice alongside the reading. “Please make sure you return books on the day. You will incur a £5 fine if this isn’t returned. Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned”.
PE days
All classes have PE on Mondays. Please ensure your child has a complete kit that includes black or navy-blue shorts and jogging bottoms or leggings, a plain white t-shirt, navy blue jumper or hoodie and trainers. Dear Parents, please could you label your child’s belongings? This makes it much easier for them to find their way back.
Family photos
Thank you to all the parents who have already provided family pictures – your support is truly invaluable.
We are busy creating our new class family boards for the year and would love a family photo from each family to put on display. Please can you send your child in with a photograph or, alternatively, email this to enquires.
Have a wonderful and restful weekend !
Year 1 team.
