Autumn leaves and the grass is jewelled…
Autumn days are definitely upon us. Mrs Smith is helping us explore the seasons in our Art lessons. So far we have created some Autumn pictures, and this week we have created some wintery scenes – thank you Mrs Smith.
Our sentence-making has been linked to The Jolly Postman text – there are so many different characters to spot in the book. We were very good at working out the traditional tales each piece of post was linked to. In our phonics, we have been reading with the long /ae/ sound (make, tail, today, great).
We have continued with the language and symbols for greater than >, less than <, and equal to =. One of our activities is attached – better still this activity can be done outside comparing any objects, with a pair of sticks, and can be woven into a woodland walk.
Next week:
We continue with The Jolly Postman – the book is a launch pad for helping us to write in the past tense. We will focus on one particular story which is well-known to us for our independent learning; Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
In Maths, we are representing numbers in different ways, with a focus on pairs of numbers that total 10.
Reading book:
Our phonics reader is Viv Wails. The long /ae/ sound is the first part of new phonic code. We have been using it in our reading and writing of words in isolation, and have read with it too. Please read regularly – and then perhaps you could spot these spellings in other stories and books they like to read too.
PLEASE HELP:
For our rain investigations, we are making rain gauges. Please send in a 2 litre plastic bottle to help us make them. We have a grand total of…4 so far across the year group.
Looking Ahead:
After half-term we will be starting Forest Schools with Mr Longden. Separate information will be coming home; please prepare, as we go out in all weathers. Our days for Forest School, which will start the week beginning 11th November, are as follows:
Monday afternoons – Dragonflies
Tuesday afternoons – Butterflies
Thursday afternoons – Bumblebees
