What another fantastic week in Year 1. The children have continued to impress their teachers.
Phonics
We have continued to learn sounds from the initial code. This week we have focused on /w/ /j/ /z/ /ff/ (huff), /zz/ (fizz), /ss/ (miss), /ll/ (bell). Please feel free to continue to practice these sounds with your children, building words with them and then writing them into sentences. Here are some phonics sound mats you can practice at home. Please bear in mind, some sounds on Phase 3 the children have not yet learnt. Phase 2,3 sound mats
English
In English this week, we have been using adjectives and nouns to label images from our story Traction Man. We’ve had a lot of fun wearing our magical, imagination googles to help us think of exciting vocabulary and characters. Please continue to practive letter formation at home Letter formation
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on comparing objects. We have learnt language such as: taller, shorter, bigger, smaller, heavier, lighter and longer. If you would like to continue this at home this would be fantastic. Please practice number formation at home number formation
Science
During Science this week, the children learnt all about the different seasons. We went outside to look at the trees and discussed the changes that occur during the months. Here is a song the children enjoyed Seasons Song – YouTube
Next week
In English next week we will be writing captions based on the story Supertato ( (2) Supertato – Books Alive! Read Aloud book for kids – YouTube ).
In Maths we will be counting and comparing objects. If you would like to try some pre-teaching here is an example Greater than and less than
In Phonics, we will continue to develop the initial code but building more advanced words.
Important notices
- Please can all children bring in a family photo for our classroom display if they haven’t already done so.
- Snacks are provided for Year 1 snack time. However, the children can bring in additional fruit for snack time if they would like.
- Please can all children bring in a labeled PE kit if they haven’t already done so. This needs to be appropriate for outside PE as well as inside.
