Another week bursting with wonderful learning has flown by!
We are delighted to share that our Outdoor Play and Learning has officially begun, and what a wonderful start it has been. Year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the space alongside children from other year groups, building friendships and developing key skills such as teamwork, communication and creativity through their play. It has been a joy to see their enthusiasm and we look forward to many more enriching outdoor experiences ahead.
In Writing, the children have begun creating their own memoirs. They are thinking about special moments from their lives and learning how to write about them in a clear and engaging way. It has been lovely to see their ideas come to life as they grow in confidence with their writing. Writing template : Landscape book templates Writing Project
In Phonics, we have been focusing on the /air/ sound, alongside revisiting previously taught sounds to ensure these are secure. The children are becoming increasingly confident in recognising and applying these sounds in both reading and writing. We have also completed our Phonics Screening Check practice in the classroom. If you would like to support your child further at home, the 2025 Phonics Screening Check materials are available for you to use for additional practice. In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of place value using number lines. They have been practising how to estimate where numbers belong on a number line and using this to support their reasoning. The children have also been exploring adding one more and one less, strengthening their confidence with number relationships. Key Messages:
Phonics books: please make sure these are returned on 15.05.26. The phonics books relate to the spellings we have been learning in class so please use them for any spelling practice alongside the reading. Please make sure you return books on the day. You will incur a £5 fine if this isn’t returned. Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned.

Forest School: Please ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate clothing for their Forest School sessions, including weather-suitable outdoor wear and sturdy footwear ( wellies at school)
Class days are as follows:
- Dragonflies: Tuesday
- Butterflies: Monday
- Bumblebees: Thursday
PE Summer 1: This half term, PE lessons will be replaced by Forest School sessions and Theatre Dance. These experiences will continue to deliver the same core physical education curriculum objectives in a more creative and outdoor-focused way.
