Dear parents and carers,
It has been a hot and busy week in Year 1. Children have again enjoyed outdoor learning including creating number lines on the playground and using our senses to explore the outdoors.
In English, this week we have been writing narratives using different pictures to spark our imaginations. Our focus has been on using capital letters and full stops appropriately to ensure we do not end up with sentences that are too long.
In Maths, we have been looking at direction. We began by looking at turns – quarter turn, half turn, 3/4 turn and full turn. We then looked at moving objects from left to right and forwards and backwards. To finish, we used this knowledge to talk about where object were in relation to each other. In Phonics, we have been learning the different spellings for the /l/ sound.
We have identified the -l- spellings:
l – along, slip, slick
ll – fall, well, cellar
al – medal, metal, total
el – travel, towel
il – pencil
le – ankle, apple, wrinkle
ol – petrol
