Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been another busy week in year 1.
The children have been working hard and have really settled into their life in KS1.
The children have really enjoyed their science lessons where they were discovering about how seasons affect daylight as well as how some parts of the world are in daytime whereas other parts it is nighttime. Ask your children to get a torch and show you this on a globe if you have one!
In Maths, we have been working on counting backwards from 10 and then 20 which the children have been really successful at. Please see the worksheets from this week and practice with your child at home if you wish.
Traction Man took the show in English this week, and we have had some brilliant sentence written from students remembering to use their capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. You can get the images used from here and give writing the sentences another go at home.
Next week:
It is Poetry Week next week so we will be taking a break from Traction Man and his adventures to focus on some poetry. Children will be writing affirmation poems that will be displayed on our Writing Showcase board. Our focus poem will be ‘A Circle of Sun’ by Rebecca Kai Dotlich. The children will be learning this poem as a class.
In Maths, the children will be focusing on comparing groups by matching.
Science in year 1 next week, we will be looking at the wind and telling the direction of the wind, introducing North, East South and West.
Reading book:
Please remember to read the phonics book at home every day with your child. Books will be changed again on 11th October 2024.
Snacks:
Please use a plastic Tupperware to pack your child’s snack (not glass). Snacks should be healthy – fruit, vegetables and crackers
