What an incredibly busy and rewarding week we have had in Year 1!
Forest School has captured the children’s hearts and imagination. Their enthusiasm has been wonderful to see and it has been a joy watching their natural curiosity flourish outdoors. Through these sessions, the children are not only exploring and having fun, but also learning how to respond thoughtfully to nature and take care of the environment, all while staying safe.
In Writing, the children have been busy planning their memoirs. They have shown great creativity and thoughtfulness as they begin to shape their ideas. We are particularly excited to move on to illustrating next week, where the children will bring their work to life through their drawings. Writing template : Landscape book templates Writing Project
In Phonics, we have been focusing on the /or/ sound, alongside revisiting previously taught sounds to ensure these are secure. The children are becoming increasingly confident in recognising and applying these sounds in both reading and writing. In Maths, the children have been continuing to practise building numbers using tens and ones. This has helped to strengthen their understanding of place value and we are seeing growing confidence as they represent and work with numbers in different ways. Find useful worksheets here:1 .2 3 4 5
Key Messages:
Phonics books: please make sure these are returned on 01.05.26. The phonics books relate to the spellings we have been learning in class so please use them for any spelling practice alongside the reading. Please make sure you return books on the day. You will incur a £5 fine if this isn’t returned. Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned.
OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) we are incredibly grateful for your continued support. If you are planning a spring clear-out, we would greatly appreciate any donations to help enrich our outdoor play environment. We are currently in need of items such as picnic blankets, pieces of wooden planks, old strollers, garden water butts, helmets, buckets and old electronics.
Forest School: Please ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate clothing for their Forest School sessions, including weather-suitable outdoor wear and sturdy footwear ( wellies at school)
Class days are as follows:
- Dragonflies: Tuesday
- Butterflies: Monday
- Bumblebees: Thursday
PE Summer 1: This half term, PE lessons will be replaced by Forest School sessions and Theatre Dance. These experiences will continue to deliver the same core physical education curriculum objectives in a more creative and outdoor-focused way.
