Year 1 Weekly Update
In Writing, we have been focusing on editing and proofreading our work. The children have been learning how to carefully re-read their sentences to check for capital letters. We have been “cracking open words” to find more interesting vocabulary. We are encouraging them to think about how they can improve their writing and make simple corrections independently.
In Maths, we have been learning about doubles and near doubles. The children have been using practical resources and number sentences to help them understand how doubling works and how near doubles can help us solve calculations more quickly. This is a key skill for developing mathematical fluency.
To further support your child’s learning at home, please encourage regular practise on:
- Numbots – A fun online game that helps to build number bonds and fluency.
- Hit the Button – Quick fire maths practise to support recall of key facts.

School Trip – Butterflies Parent Volunteers Needed
We are looking for parent volunteers to support our school trip to the Botanic Gardens on Monday 17th March. If you are available to help, please speak to a Miss Feigen as soon as possible. We greatly appreciate your support.
A reminder that we are a nut-free school. Please do not bring any food containing nuts into class.
Please ensure that all uniform and PE kits are clearly labelled. This makes it much easier to return items to children when found in the classroom. Ask your child about OPAL Bingo! We are collecting second hand donations for our new outdoor play and learning curriculum. Please see our bingo sheets in each classroom window, or talk to your child’s teacher for more information.
