What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 1! The children have worked so hard and should be really proud of themselves.
English
Our All About Me books are coming along brilliantly! This week, we focused on writing about our families and hobbies, sharing all the special people in our lives and the activities we love to do. The children wrote with such enthusiasm, and it was wonderful to see them expressing themselves so creatively.
We also had lots of fun thinking up silly questions to answer when we’re older—there were some very funny ones! We can’t wait to see what their future selves will think of their answers!
Maths
In maths, we’ve been developing our number skills by counting in tens and learning how to partition two-digit numbers into tens and ones. The children have shown great resilience and problem-solving skills as they tackled new challenges, and it’s been amazing to see their confidence grow. Keep up the great work, Year 1!
Science
We have been learning all about plants and how they grow! The children were very excited to start growing their own beans last week and making predictions about what will happen next. This week, we spent time observing different plants and identifying their parts, including the roots, stem, leaves, and flowers. It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as young scientists! We will continue to observe our plants over the next few weeks and see how they change.
Phonics
This week, we explored the sounds s, ss, st, and c in words like sitting, press, castle, and cell. The children did a brilliant job spotting these tricky sounds in words and using them in their writing. Their reading and spelling skills are improving every day—well done, everyone!
Next Week in Year 1!
We have lots of exciting learning planned for next week!
English – We’ll continue our All About Me books, this time writing about our favourite lessons and what we want to be when we grow up! It will be wonderful to hear about all the amazing dreams and ambitions the children have.
Maths – We’ll be continuing with partitioning two-digit numbers, building on our understanding and tackling some new challenges.
Phonics – Our new focus sounds will be le, al, ll, and l.
