In STEM, the children have been exploring the fascinating topic of wind and direction. They learnt how to use compasses to identify the points of the compass and to tell which way the wind is blowing. The class had great fun designing and making their own windsocks, a simple but important scientific tool used to show the direction of the wind, whether it is coming from the north, south, east or west.
In History: the children have continued their learning about the Victorian era. This week, we delved deeper into the differences within Victorian society, exploring the contrast between the lives of the wealthy and those of the poor. They discovered how poor children often faced very strict conditions and limited resources, while more affluent children had access to better facilities, teachers, and opportunities.
In Phonics, we continued working on the /ee/ sound and explored the different ways it can be spelled, such as in evening, beach, speech, thief.. . The children have been spotting these sounds in words around the classroom and practising reading and writing them.
In Writing,we have continued our exciting project, “Traditional Tales with a Twist”. The children have been working hard to complete the endings of their stories, adding their own creative twists. Next week, they will focus on proofreading to check that they have used capital letters at the start of sentences and full stops at the end. We can’t wait to see their finished pieces!
In Maths, we have been practising all about “1 more than” and “1 less than”. The children had lots of fun exploring different ways to work out these numbers, using practical resources, number lines, and interactive games to help them understand the concepts. They enjoyed challenging themselves to find patterns and solve problems, building both their confidence and their fluency with numbers.
