Apologies for the Delay!
We’re so sorry for the blog not being uploaded over the last few weeks. We have been experiencing some technical difficulties, but we’re back now and excited to share all the fantastic learning happening in Year 1!
This Week in Year 1
English:
The children have been busy finishing their All About Me books. They have written about their favourite lessons in school and what they want to be when they grow up. It has been wonderful to read about their dreams and aspirations! Here’s some extra learning to complete at home English – fruit salad instructions Maths – partitioning numbers
Maths:
This week, the children have continued developing their understanding of partitioning numbers into tens and ones. Using dienes and part-whole models, they are becoming more confident in breaking down numbers and understanding place value. Phonics:
We have been learning about the different spellings of the ‘l’ sound. The children explored words with ‘l’ as in lift, ‘al’ as in medal, ‘ll’ as in still, and ‘el’ as in channel. They have done a fantastic job recognizing these patterns in their reading and writing!
Topic & Science:
One of the highlights of the week was our fruit-tasting activity! The children had so much fun using their senses to describe different fruits and then creating their very own fruit salad. It was a great way to explore textures, tastes, and smells while encouraging healthy eating.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
English:
We will be editing one page of our All About Me book and writing it up neatly. We will also be working on a Guess My Poem list poem, where the children will use adjectives to create exciting and descriptive writing.
Maths:
We will continue our work on partitioning two-digit numbers, building on our confidence and understanding of place value.
Phonics:
Next week, we will be focusing on the ‘__’ sound (insert next week’s phonics focus).
