Dear Parents and Carers,
Our sentence-making has been linked to Goldilocks and the Three Bears! The children never tire of this classic. We discusses Goldilocks’ naughty behaviour, and we were sure to tell her off by sending her a strongly worded letter.
In phonics we have been learning about the /o/ sound. It can be spelled /ow/ as in snow; /oe/ as in toe; /o/ as in so; /oa/ as in toad. Can you write some sentences with the/o/ sound together at home? Or even a story?
We have been practsing number bonds – 10 in maths. We show the number bond as a part whole model. Have a try at home.
Next week:
We will be looking at Jack and the Beanstalk. We will continue to focus on using past tense verbs in our talking and writing.
In Maths, we will be continuing our learning on our number bonds to 10. Have a go at singing some number bonds to 10 songs at home!
Reading book:
Our phonics reader is Viv Wails. The long /ae/ sound is the first part of new phonic code. We have been using it in our reading and writing of words in isolation, and have read with it too. Please read regularly – and then perhaps you could spot these spellings in other stories and books they like to read too.
PLEASE HELP:
Bumblebees and Dragonflies still need water bottles for their science learning. If you have one you don’t need at home, please bring it in.
Looking Ahead:
After half-term we will be starting Forest Schools with Mr Longden. Separate information will be coming home; please prepare, as we go out in all weathers. Our days for Forest School, which will start the week beginning 11th November, are as follows:
Monday afternoons – Dragonflies
Tuesday afternoons – Butterflies
Thursday afternoons – Bumblebees
- Phonics books will be changed next Friday.
- It is Family Friday next Friday afternoon. We look forward to meeting many of you and celebrating your childrens’ learning.
Enjoy the weekend,
The Year 1 Team
