It’s been another wonderful week of learning in Reception this week!

Phonics – Our phonics this week recapped Unit 6. This included the sounds j, w, and z.

To continue this learning at home, you could support your child to read and write the words: wag, wig, web, win.

Drawing Club – We watched the classic animation ‘Captain Pugwash’, creating our treasure maps. Some of the vocabulary we explored as part of this were words and phrases such as ‘hoist’, ‘lost’, ‘beware’ and ‘observe’.

Maths – In Maths, we focused on identifying the missing number in sequences of 5.

Project – The children have really enjoyed reading and learning about inspirational people of the past. This week, we had a focus on artists, exploring the lives of Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso.

Art Skill of the Week – In our craft areas, we have been creating flower crown art inspired by Frida Kahlo and paintings in the style of Cubism.

Next week is a very exciting week at UCPS – it’s Shakespeare Week! We will spend the entire week exploring ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ – creating fairy crowns, doing some ballet sessions and ending the week with a magical whole school feast!

Thank you for another wonderful week of learning – have a fantastic weekend!
