It’s been another wonderful week of learning in Reception this week!

Phonics – Our phonics this week recapped Unit 5. This included the sounds k, l, u and r.

To continue this learning at home, you could support your child to read and write the words: kid, dug, hut, red.

Drawing Club – We have been reading ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, thinking of creative ways for the bear to sneak into the upper window of the house. Some of the vocabulary we explored as part of this were words and phrases such as ‘wandering’, ‘joyful’, ‘obstacle’ and ‘courageous’.

Maths – In Maths, we focused on perpetual subitising, considering how numbers can be easily identified visually – e.g. seeing 4 as two groups of 2.

Project – The children have really enjoyed reading and learning about inspirational people of the past. This week, we had a focus musicians, exploring the lives of Mozart and Ella Fitzgerald.

Art Skill of the Week – In our craft areas, we have been using lollipop sticks to create puppets of Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong.

Next week, we will be learning all about the lives of Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso, focusing on Art. On Friday, we will be learning and celebrating Lunar New Year! Please let us know if there is anything you would like to contribute to the learning of Lunar New Year.

In the spirit of learning all about Picasso and Frida Kahlo, we are looking for donations of paper plates and magazines or newspapers.

Thank you for another wonderful week of learning – have a fantastic weekend!
