We have had such a busy week celebrating our favourite books with the children! Our Reading Areas are always popular spaces in our classrooms but this week they were particularly busy. The sunshine has also meant that our outdoor Reading Shed welcomed a lot more visitors too. We are looking forward to seeing this space get used a lot more as the weather continues to improve.
During circle time, the children were so excited to share their books from home. Thank you so much for the care and effort from families at home. The children presented their wrapped book and clue for their friends to guess their favourite books. We were so impressed by the creativity involved in many of these sharing sessions.
We had a huge range of books to share and this inspired lots of children to explore stories that they had never experienced before. We had so many books to share that we will have to continue unwrapping and sharing the books into next week!
Continuing with our Animal focus this week the children found out lots about underwater creatures. We enjoyed reading the book ‘Big Book of the Blue’ to find out about animals around the world. The children tried to recall key facts and discussed features of ocean animals with their friends.
Later in the week, we enjoyed reading ‘Surprising Sharks’. We found out about some very unusual breeds of sharks and compared the sizes of the smallest to the biggest sharks around the world.
In Phonics, we have been writing words with 4 sounds in! We are very excited about this new skill.
At home, you could recap this skill with your children by writing the words-
gift, limp, list, wink, pond or bump.
If you are looking for more of a challenge then your child could have a go at writing-
The ant will come in and sink in the soft dust.
In PSHCE, we have been naming and describing our body parts. We combined this with our music and enjoyed singing ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ together. We had lots of fun!
