Starting Strong: Our First Weeks in Reception

What an incredible start to the school year! We are absolutely delighted to welcome all our new Reception families to our school community. After two full weeks of school life, we couldn’t be prouder of how brilliantly your children have settled into their new adventure.

It has been wonderful to watch your little ones grow in confidence each day as they become more comfortable with our school routines. One of the highlights has been seeing how much they’ve enjoyed staying for school lunches – the chatter and laughter in the dining hall shows just how at home they’re beginning to feel.

Lunch Menus: Don’t forget that our school menus are available online if you’d like to discuss the upcoming meals with your children at home.

Our teachers have begun completing the Reception Baseline Assessments with each child. These important assessments are carried out on a one-to-one basis using an iPad, and they help us understand each child’s starting point as they begin their formal education journey.

This will be one of the very few times throughout the year that children will interact with technology during their learning, as we are committed to providing technology-free learning experiences wherever possible. We believe in hands-on, creative learning that engages all the senses!

 Reception children have started their very first Drawing Club sessions! They created their own wonderful interpretations of the Colour Monster, inspired by the beloved story “The Colour Monster” by Anna Llenas. The children then added their own magical codes to bring their drawings to life – the creativity and imagination they showed was absolutely fantastic!

If you haven’t already done so, please remember to bring a pair of named wellington boots for your child to keep at school. These will be invaluable for our outdoor learning adventures, especially as we head into the autumn months.

Our PE sessions are starting gently! The children will not be getting changed for PE until after the October half-term. For now, they’ll begin with dance sessions on Thursday afternoons, and these will be done in their school uniforms to keep things simple and stress-free.

Mark your calendars! Our Family Festival will take place on Thursday 23rd October. Please keep your afternoons free if you’d like to attend this special celebration. We’ll be sending out more detailed information soon, but we can’t wait to welcome you all for this wonderful community event.

It’s never too early to save these very special dates! This year we’ll be putting on three live performances of our Christmas Nativity right here at school:
