This week, we have continued to look at musicians and discover the inspiring life of Ella Fitzgerald. Children enjoyed writing their own scat songs using their phonics knowledge.
Phonics
In phonics, we have moved on to Unit 5 focusing on the sounds k, l, r, and u this week. The children are building words like ‘kip,’ ‘tug,’ ‘rat,’ and learning to read simple sentences. We’re also practicing our high-frequency word: ‘are’.
Writing for Pleasure
For Writing for Pleasure, the children are learning to be proud authors! We’re showing them how real authors put their names on books and how to create great titles. We’re also exploring all the wonderful equipment in our writing area – word mats, book templates, pencils, and paper.
Handwriting
This week we have been practicing the letters g, f, b and p. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths
This week in maths, we’re developing our subitising skills – that’s the ability to recognize how many objects there are without counting. We’re encouraging the children to see groups and patterns rather than counting everything one by one – this builds strong number sense.
PSHE
We have been thinking about how we can help look after our things and our homes.
Important Reminder: PE After Half Term
We’ll be starting PE sessions after the February half term, so please ensure your child has their PE kit in school. We’ll be doing some sessions outside, and as it may be a little colder than we’d hoped, please make sure their kit is weather appropriate.
