Spring 1, Week 6

Well done Reception, what an exciting half term we have had learning all about the past!

This week, we have been focusing on our reading and writing. In phonics, we have been learning how to read and write 4 letter words (CVCC).

Why not practise writing the following words and sentence at home:
must, lump, mint, dusk, bulb
Kit, get a big jug of pop.

Remember that when we are writing we need to ‘say the sounds and read the word’ this will help us to remember what to write! Can your little one remember what they need to write a sentence? (capital letters, finger space, full stop).

During our handwriting lessons, we have been practising the letters r, p and b.

In Maths, we have been learning about the composition of 7. How do we make 7?

7 is made of 5 and 2! 7 is made of 3 and 4! 7 is made of 6 and 1!

The children have had a go at building their own numberblock 7 and discussed which numbers might be hiding within the numberblock. To help us learn about different parts and whole numbers we have been singing head, shoulders, knees and toes. We practised saying ‘My (body parts) are a part of me and the whole of me is (name).’

We also sang 7 little ducks and discussed how many ducks went missing and how many came back!
‘7 little ducks went swimming one day over the hills and far away… mummy duck said quack quack quack and only 6 little ducks came back…’

We have also been learning about understanding money in PSHCE, we learnt how to sort money and where to keep it safe.

More information about Shepreth Wildlife Park will be shared next half term, the suggested donation for the trip will be £16. After half term, we will be learning about all creatures, great and small!
