Happy New Year Reception! We hope that you had a lovely festive break!
Last week, we read ‘Family and Me by Michaela Dias-Hayes’, the children enjoyed sharing which characteristics they have inherited from their family.
This half term we will be learning about the past, this week, we have been focusing on explorers. We are currently reading the Little People Big Dreams books about Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong.

In our drawing club lesson, we have read ‘In Our Hands by Lucy Farfort’. We used our imagination to think of an idea to banish the dull and bring back the light! To help us along the way we learnt the following words: harmony, hopeful, dreams, hurt, exhausted, bright and transform.
In phonics, we have been reading and writing words using the following sounds: /j/ /w/ /z/
Have a go at practicing some of these words at home: job, wet, jam
In Maths, we have been singing 5 Little Aliens in a flying saucer and learning about the composition of 5 and 6. Can you share which numbers make 5 and 6 at home?
Here are the sentences stems that we use to support with consolidation of these number facts in school:
5 is made of 3 and 2.
5 is made of 4 and 1.
6 is made of 3 and 3.
6 is made of 4 and 2.
6 is made of 5 and 1.
In PE, we have been learning to play games in teams and travelling carefully around our peers. We have played ‘Treasure Island’ and ‘What Time is it Pirate?’
In PSHCE, we have been learning about the different ways that our friends celebrate! We read all about Elmer Day and the children discussed the special celebrations that their families have!
