What a fun week we have had in Reception!
Phonics
In phonics, this week we have continued working on a bridging unit which helps to address some of the new phonics themes that the children will encounter in year one.

Helping Your Child at Home – University of Cambridge Primary School
Traditional Tales
We are enjoying our learning project ‘Traditional Tales’. This week we have enjoyed looking at the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We have used our story table in each classroom to re-tell the story using our own words, and we have been writing shopping lists for Little Red Riding Hood too.
Writing for Pleasure
In Writing for Pleasure, we have started making our next book project, ‘Once upon a time books’. We have recorded our ideas and written a list of all the things we need to remember in our books. We then made our front covers for our books, making sure we have a colourful picture, a title, an author name and the book birthday.
Forest School
We all really enjoyed our first session of Reception forest school this week! We learnt about the forest rules and we talked in our classes about how to respect nature at forest school. We then enjoyed exploring the forest area and getting to know the space. We searched for minibeasts and listened to birds and enjoyed experiencing the changing weather! We also enjoyed making stick decorations with sticks, wool and feathers, and hung them on a special tree. What a lovely time!
Maths
This week in maths the activities have built on the children’s skills in comparing attributes and quantities. We have focused on ordinality: considering where numbers to 10 are in relation to each other. Through practical activities and games, the children have been reasoning about numbers and thinking carefully about which is more or less. We have used linear number tracks to play games that encourage them to compare numbers that are far apart, near and next to each other
