What a fantastic half term we’ve had in Reception! Well done to all the Pumpkins, Acorns and Sunflowers! Lots of indoor and outdoor playful learning, lots of phonics and maths learning, and lots of great building projects too for our ‘Building the World’ project.

Phonics

In phonics, this week we have continued working on Unit 11, where we have been using the sounds ‘wh’, ‘th’ and ‘ng’. We have been building words such as ‘king’, ‘whiff’ and ‘bath’.

Shakespeare Week

We have enjoyed Shakespeare Week in Reception! We have explored the story of Midsummer Night’s Dream in the classroom, learning some of the character names, writing some recipes for some magic potions, and making flower bunting for our windows. We also enjoyed our session with Year 6 on a special Midsummer Night’s Dream project to do together with our Year 6 buddies. What a lovely week!

Writing for Pleasure

In Writing for Pleasure, we have finished working on our journey books. We have been making posters to advertise our bookshop and looking forward to sharing them with everyone!

Handwriting

This week we have been practicing our letter formation carefully. Please continue to encourage handwriting at home, especially the abracadabra letters. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths

This week in maths, the children have consolidated their understanding of the composition of 5. They also deepened their understanding of a ‘whole’ being made up of smaller parts through games and practical experiences, such as investigating different ways to represent 5 monkeys jumping on a bed. Using and making links between these different representations will encourage the children to develop a deep and holistic understanding.

Botley the Robot

The children have continued to explore Botley the Robot this week, and have enjoyed getting to know how the robot works through play. Children have finished working in groups to plan and build their choice of buildings ready for Botley City.

Lucy Cox Resources

This week Miss Lucy has been looking at the concept of front. Here are some resources to support you to help your child with this at home:

Well done everyone on a great week. Wishing you a lovely half term and we are looking forward to seeing everyone when we return.
