We’ve had a great week in Reception. Lots of outdoor and indoor playful learning, as well as lots of great building projects too!
Phonics
In phonics, we have continued working on Unit 11, where we have been using the sounds ‘ck’, ‘sh’, and ‘ch’. We have been building words such as ‘kick’, ‘shop’ and ‘chip’.

Writing for Pleasure
In Writing for Pleasure, we have continued working on our journey books. We have been revising our stories and checking that we have remembered all the elements we have talked about like capital letters, finger spaces, full stops.
Handwriting
This week we have been practicing our letter formation carefully. Please continue to encourage handwriting at home, especially the abracadabra letters. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths
This week in maths, the children have continued to engage with activities that draw attention to the purpose of counting. They have also been revisiting the concept of cardinality, the idea that the last number tells us how many there are altogether. They have also been practising hearing the differences between number names, for example ‘teen’ and ‘-ty’ numbers.
Botley the Robot
The children have continued to explore Botley the Robot this week, and have enjoyed getting to know how the robot works through play. Children have continued to work in groups to plan and build their choice of buildings ready for Botley City.
Junk Modelling Resources
We are making our building creations for Botley City, so if you have any boxes at home which you are planning to recycle, please do bring them into school for the children to use in their making. We would love to use them to make Botley City!
